Our Ticket for Freshman Caucus, Sie-Wadhwa, goes over Academic Policies, Quality of Life Policies, and Event Policies. We can help you "Sie-Dhway" (See the Way) into a better school year.
Our website contains our policies, a blog with campaign updates, and about us and contact information. Feel free to visit it at this link!

When creating Academic Policies, we took into account complaints as well our transition into the novelty of an (almost) post-pandemic school environment.
Homework Policy Enforcement through an Infractions Website
This policy would help to enforce the 30 minute homework policy (especially on AP courses as it is a recent academic change). We introduce the idea of an Infractions Website that would allow freshmen to anonymously come together to raise concerns to teachers if there is a problem with a certain homework or the workload in general.
Allowance of Virtual Note Taking
This policy attempts to address the transition of Remote Learning to the return back to In-Person learning. This policy would not mandate, but allow for students to use devices in class to take notes. Some teachers already allow students to take notes with their devices, but with the teachers who do not, this policy would allow for students to better transition from 2 years of a virtual workload and allow for more efficient working (through virtual note taking).
With Quality of Life, we attempt to better the conditions that we are faced with during our school days-- both short term and long term.
Sanitation
One issue that is prevalent especially as we are recovering from the pandemic is sanitation. Our main way of addressing sanitation would be Hand Sanitation Stations. These would be hand sanitizer stations-- two per floor with one in each wing. Initiations with hand sanitizers have been proposed, but the idea has not been completely followed through. I personally have seen only 2 hand sanitizer stations (by the Lower and Upper Gymnasium). I only noticed them a few weeks into school- making the location of them highly inconvenient and inaccessible.
Direct Democracy Caucus
Our first part of a Direct Democracy Caucus would be a Suggestion Google Form. We find this as a precedent for us to implement as we need to include the student voice's opinion in discussions regarding policy.
Our second part is Bi-Weekly Update Videos. These would be videos created by the Freshman Caucus (with the assistance of our cabinet-- particularly the IT Team) to give updates to Freshman once every two weeks as compared to emails.
Re-Entry Policy
This policy has been introduced by previous caucuses, but never implemented into our school system. This policy may be a big idea to deal with as it would not only impact the Freshman Student Body-- but we find this as a necessary policy (especially as winter is around the corner). The problem with re-entry is that students are not allowed back into the building until 5 minutes before the next class. We plan to address this issue by advocating to Principal Yu, Vice Principal Moran, and the security staff to investigate "why we cannot re-enter the building and safety procedures that may help ease the situation and allow for re-entering" (Our Policy Document).
Exiting School Policy
Another policy change similar in regards to leaving and entering the school is the 5:00 PM departure mandate in the school. Once again this change would impact all Stuyvesant students (not just freshmen), but we find this as an issue that has to be addressed because of colder temperatures and shorter daylight hours. We plan to change the departure time past 5:00 PM to at least 6:00 PM. Changing this policy could be made realistic with designated areas for students to wait in.
Student Communication
Student Communication is another issue which has been attempted by previous caucuses. We attempt a different way to solve this policy by having a uniform app/program, Google Chats, for class group chats. We find this as the easiest and fastest solution for creating class group chats as everyone at Stuyvesant has access to a stuy.edu email, meaning that everyone could be added to the Google Chat and be able to converse with their class.
Commute Companions
Commute Companions, to be brief, would be a program which helps to match students together based on lines they take, times they leave, and boroughs. This would help with concerns with public transportation safety and the loneliness of many long commutes.
Game Shows
Our game shows are our pilot idea for student socialization. We look to make use of the Auditorium on some days to hold game shows that would bring out our competitive spirits but also allow an opportunity for socialization and laughter amongst the student body, something that all freshmen should get in order to enjoy themselves.

We are fairly certain that these policies will assist all freshmen through their initial year and lay groundwork for future caucuses.
