Platform / Policies:

We are the Servants of the People. You deserve a better life at Stuyvesant, and we are the only ones who are going to bring it into fruition. If you let us build Stuyvesant into a paradise, everyone will reap the rewards of our work.

Our campaign prioritizes the modernization of Stuyvesant. These improvements include:

  • Fluorescent Light Tube Replacement

Everyone takes for granted that there will always be light. Many of us don’t think about how this crucial necessity is maintained. When you walk around Stuyvesant, you will notice that almost every single light fixture is a tube, better known as a Fluorescent Light Tube. Filled with mercury gas, these inefficient, dangerous, and unreliable tubes are the backbone of Stuyvesant, and many are failing. Flickering and complete burnout plague many of Stuyvesant’s Fluorescent Tubes. Our solution? L.E.D Tubes. We will have the broken and failing tubes replaced by new L.E.D Tubes which will not only save the school funding in electricity costs, they will also last much longer and look nicer than the old Fluorescent Tubes. Plus, they’ll actually light up the school instead of looking like some Cold-War bunker lighting.

  • Electrical Safety

Electricity is not a force to be trifled with, just like us. Exposed wiring can pose a serious health hazard and just look not up to par overall. When you think of an abandoned building, you think of a place with no lights and sparking electricity. Stuyvesant is very close to having both conditions met. In many of the cases at Stuyvesant, they could be fixed by placing a cover plate over the exposed electrical box, even if nothing is inside. It is a cheap and simple solution for an ugly problem like open electrical boxes.

  • Dirty Windows

Stuyvesant High School is one of the luckiest schools in NYC, we have a view of the Hudson River in Battery Park. It is a shame that no one can enjoy it. Almost every window in Stuyvesant has a “dirt layer” which can be very obstructive to the view, never mind the message it puts out to the people outside. When people look at Stuyvesant from the side, they see gated-up and dirty windows; some windows you can’t even see out from inside through the soot! We want to clean up Stuyvesant, and that involves how we treat the windows into and out of our school, starting with the actual windows. When we have them cleaned, the sun and the natural atmosphere will seamlessly flow right into the classroom, improving the morale and community for all.

These are the first of many changes and improvements we will make to Stuyvesant. When we are elected, we will respond to ongoing problems and concerns of the people. This is only going to be possible if we get the basic, backbone infrastructure in place to support future improvements and will make Stuyvesant High School the Paradise it was, and will be.
